Dragon Models M60A2 Starship smart kit 1/35

Dragon Models is releasing an M60A2 Starship as a smart kit in 1/35th scale.
The M60 main battle tank (MBT), first introduced in 1960, was developed by the USA primarily to meet the threat posed by the Warsaw Pact during the Cold War. One variant of that family was the M60A2, which entered service in 1972 as a stop-gap solution before the expected arrival of the MBT-70. Some 526 examples were manufactured, and it was nicknamed the Starship because of its then sophisticated technology, with the M48 152mm gun/launcher being an obvious example.

This weapon, which had a troubled operational life, fired the MGM-51 Shillelagh anti-tank guided missile out to a range of 3km. A .50-cal machine gun was also mounted in the commander’s cupola on the new low-profile turret, meaning the commander did not need to leave the safety of his position. Although the M60A2 was a disappointment, it paved the way for future designs.

Now, to thrill fans of modern armor, we are going to released a 1/35 scale model kit of the M60A2 Starship. Dragon has conducted highly detailed and extensive research on this tank, and the result is a superb plastic kit. The complex form of the turret is accurately reflected, and the tank has lots of convenient features such as slide-molded components and DS tracks. Dragon has taken this M60A2 Starship into the space age with this technologically sophisticated kit!

It should be interesting to see where this goes. From the web site:

ICM 1/35 Panzerspähwagen P 204 (f)

ICM news of a Panzerspähwagen P 204 (f) in the works in 1/35 scale.
The model has a well detailed interior. Judging by the CAD images, ICM has done their usual excellent job of the engine and while it may take some scratch work could make for an interesting look if the access panels are opened.

Dragon Models M48A1 smart kit in 1/35

Dragon Models is releasing an M48A1 as a smart kit in 1/35th scale.
This latest M48A1 kit builds on the previous M48A3 releases, backdating elements where necessary to allow depiction of the M48A1 tank. In fact, this is the first M48A1 ever available as an injection kit. Important changes include a new commander’s cupola, a new gun shield and a new canvas mantlet cover for the turret. The latter is formed from DS to authentically replicate the original material. The fenders are brand new as well. The engine deck and rear plate are correct for the 12-cylinder gasoline engine and auxiliary 8-cylinder engine used in early M48 vehicles, while the upper hull is newly tooled too. Interestingly, the accurately shaped turret has subtle casting texture and embossed casting numbers. With Dragon’s knowhow and technological skills applied to this relatively modern subject, this M48A1 kit is accurate and available to modelers everywhere!

Features:
– Newly designed M48A1 reproduced w/authentic detail
– Intricate and full detail on fenders
– Rear hull and engine deck produced w/excellent level of detail.
– Engine deck and grills produced w/stunning detail.
– 3-directional slide-molded well-defined detail on turret produced as single piece
– Photo-etched frame for on-board tools and parts to represent tool mounts and brackets
– Separate parts allow commander’s hatch to be modeled open or closed
– True-to-scale turret stowage basket provided

Revell of Germany’s 2016 Naval Kits

Revell of Germany as issued a flyer of their planned 2016 kits with release dates. They range from re-issues, molds from other manufacturers, special packaging sets and new tooling. Here are all the naval related releases from that flyer.
First up for the Skill 3 kits:

Admiral Nelson Flagship, HMS Victory (No 05819) in 1/450 This is listed as a New Toolkit with a September 2016 release.

The Soviet Submarine “Typhoon Class” (No 05138) in 1/400 will return this year this month.

The fast cabin cruiser Sunseeker ‘Predator 108’ (No 05145) in 1/72 will appear this coming June.

For Skill 4 kits:

This cruise liner M/S Color Magic (No 05818) in 1/1200 for this July.

The WWII Italian battleship RN Roma (No 05821) in 1/1200 for this May.

The American cruise ship SS United States (No 05146) 1/600 will appear again this October

The WWII German Destroyer Type 1936 (No 05141) in 1/350 appears in May.

The German Frigate Class F122 (No 05143) in Scale: 1/300 is to be released this August.

The WWII German Submarine Type XXIII (No 05140) in 1/144 surfaces in February.

An apparent twist to their previous release of a WWII American LSM, a German LSM “Eidechse-Klasse” (No 05139) in 1/144 is also set for release in February.

The schooner USS America (No 05416) in 1/56 for this July.

The BATTLE OF TRAFALGAR set (No 05767) in 1:225, a kit of the HMS Victory with paints is for this May. Note that this is NOT the same kit as the earlier mentioned, New Tool, HMS Victory because that kit is in a different scale.

For the Skill 5 kits:

The WWIII battleship Bismarck “Platinum Edition” Ltd. Edition set ( No 05144) in 1/350 for this September.

The WWII Flower class corvette HMCS Snowberry (No 05132) in 1/144 is a new tool offering for this May. Artwork released for this kit still leaves in question the exact version of a Flower class corvette this kit will be because previous literature from Revell described this as an ‘early’ version of a corvette but the first version of these ships had a short fore-castle and associated artwork for this kit shows a modified version with the long fore-castle.

The tall sailing ship Gorch Fock (No 05417) in 1/150 is scheduled for this September.
Availability: 09/2016

And finally a re-release of the famous clipper ship, Cutty Sark, (No 05422) in 1/96 is set for an August release this year.
